I was looking at some old handbags of mine, burried in my closet for what it likes years....

Totally out of fashion and no longer interesting.

Bin it?

Resell it?

Uhm......here it comes my creative soul: I've turned it to vase flowers!

(well, basically the flowers has vases which is hidden inside the bag.

Isnt it an amazing decor idea?

 

 

Decor idea

Something I tend to buy on my trips abroad are materials:

silk, cotton, painted, quilted wool which I love to turn into decor ideas for my house.

Like in this picture, I've wrap 5 simple frames of different sizes.

I know, these looks paintings.

Handmade with love {and time}

This beautiful cardigan is hand made ALL by myself (yes, by me!). Piece by piece, I made all the single pieces that I’ve assembled together creating a cardigan. I then add the buttons on the front.

But what is special about this piece is its execution. During my years at the university, I used to commute over the weekend from my hometown to Milan, three to five hours per trip. At the time there were no mobile phones, tablets or laptops, so we read, we talked, we slept. Or knitting, like me. So I made a scarf then this crochet cardigan.

Many people on the train were intrigued by my original hobby and I cannot tell you how many new friends I made thanks to knitting (some are still friends today!).
Of course, the cardi is something not easy to wear or match, but I do enjoy wearing it in Winter: a rainbow across the dark and gloomy season.

Questo splendido cardigan é fatto TUTTO a mano dalla sottoscritta (si, da me medesima!). Cerchietto per cerchietto, ho realizzato tutti i singoli pezzetti che sono poi andata a cucire assieme creando un cardigan. Ho poi attaccato dei bottoncini sul davanti.

Ma quello che rende speciale questo cardigan é la sua realizzazione. Durante gli studi universitari, viaggiavo in treno nel fine settimana dal mio paese natale a Milano, dalle tre alle cinque ore a viaggio. All’epoca non c’erano telefonini, tablet o portatili, per cui si leggeva, si chiacchierava, si dormiva. O si sferruzzava, come me. Una volta cucivo, un’altra rammendavo, poi la sciarpa a ferri, quindi il cardigan all’uncinetto.

Problemi di tempo non ne avevo. Molte erano le persone incuriosite dall’allora originale passatempo e non vi dico che sfilza di nuove amicizie ho fatto (alcune amiche tutt’oggi) grazie a questi lavoretti.
Certo, non é un capo semplice da portare tutti i giorni, ma mi piace indossarlo in inverno: un arcobaleno che spezza le grigie e scure giornate invernali.

I am really into interior design, maybe because my father is a wood carpenter that design and make beautiful furniture. This is why I often have to change, move around and add personal style to our flat. Budget is often an issue, especially if you live in a rented place (like myself) where there is no point to invest in expensive items.
And here I come up with an idea! Having many nice and sparkling jewelers, why not using to embellish the table, the living room, the telephone corner?


Sono una grande appassionata di decorazione di interni, ereditata probabilmente da mio padre, un artigiano falegname che disegna, progetta e reallizza spendidi mobili. Sarà per questo che ho spesso il desiderio di spostare mobili, cambiare oggettistica e dare un tocco personale alla mia casa. Ma spesso i costi per rendere più bella una casa sono proibitivi, o non sono contemplati, coprattutto per chi, come me, vive in affitto. Non c’e’ ragione di spendere capitali in preziosi oggetti o mobili.

Ed ecco a cosa ho pensato! Avendo molta bigiotteria brillante, importante e originale, perché non utilizzarla per rendere più bella la tavola, il salotto, l’angolo del telefono?

Use brooches and statement belts to add a sparkling touch to a precious sofa cushion.

Suntuose cinture e brillanti spille aggiungono un tocco prezioso ai cuscini del sofà.





Necklaces and bracelets are perfect to embellish vases. Use nice bottles and personalised them with simple jewels.

Collane e braccialetti abbelliscono i vasi. Invece dei vasi si possono usare bottiglie e personalizzate con dei semplici gioielli.





And finally, use satin ribbons, brooches, pendants to add a personal touch to your presents! Why don't you use recycle paper for an interesting contrast?

E per finire, usa nastri di raso o tessuto con spille e pendenti per impreziosire regali (magari usando per contrastro una carta riciclata).

Little pleasure from the South

I have been give some sun-kissed lemons from Sicily and what's best then doing a home made jam?




Here is my quick (and successful) recipe:

wash lemons carefully and remove dry or brown parts
thinly slice them all and place the bits into a bowl
add some water to soften the zest and remove some bitter flavour from the fruits
(I've done this in the morning and cook the jam in late afternoon)

remove the cutted pieces, squeezing them with your hands to remove excess water
put in a pan, add sugar with equal weight of the original fruits
cook for 40 min by gently wisking
jam will be ready when, pouring a spoon of it on the plate, it won't run but has the right density









fill with jam some sterilised vases

now, take some fresh bread, butter and a tea with milk and enjoy this little pleasure!!!





Mi hanno regalato dei meravigliosi limoni di Sicilia che profumano di sole. Perchè non fare quindi una marmellata?

Questa é la mia veloce (e riuscita) ricetta:

lavate con cura i limoni e rimuovete le parti marroni o secche
affettateli finemente e ponete il tutto in una boulle
coprite con dell'acqua per ammorbidire la buccia e togliere un po' di aspro
(questa operazione l'ho fatta al mattino, poi ho cotto la marmellata nel tardo pomeriggio)

prendete la frutta tagliata e strizzatela con le mani quindi mettete tutto in una pentola capiente
aggiungere zucchero, dello stesso quantitativo del peso della frutta in origine
cuocere per 40 minuti circa mescolando delicatamente per tutto il tempo
la marmellata sarà pronta quando, versandone un cucchiaino su un piatto, questa risulterà abbastanza consistente, non liquida (poi si rapprende quando raffredda)
riempite dei vasetti sterilizzati

ora, prendete del pane fresco, burro ed un tea col latte e godetevi questa squisitezza!!!

Fashion DIY #1

I've recently bought this dress from Camaieu which I fell in love with but happened to be too short for me (I do not have slim legs and at *my age* I rather cover up then show up flash...).





So, I bought a piece of nice material of one of the dress matching shade of brown. I've cut two rectangular stripes, sew them to make a strip, turn it inside out and pressed down with the iron to give it the right shape.

Then, I've sew it on dress, at the bottom of it, right behind the border.

{all the work has been done manually as I do not have a sewing machine!}

And here is the result:



I wear it with a long brown cardi, brown tights and boots.
Guess the colour of the bag and coat? brown!!!

The dress material is 100% warm cotton and it is very comfortable. Here I am wearing a pair of gold earings you cannot see as hidden by the curly...
But I also accessories it with a long, multi-brown shade necklace made in wood and stones.



Have a look at this coat: this is my grandmother's, from the 70's!
it's pure suede, very well cut, a masterpiece. This is one of my favourite piece in the wardrobe (also because it was nonna's).

Yesterday, while looking at some NYFW pictures I was amazed to find this Diane Von Furstenberg the same shape as mine and with the same strip idea!
